About Therapy
It is natural for people to feel down at times. We must find strategies to alleviate the suffering, which could include speaking with a friend or relative. However, we may be continuously concerned that they may allow your narrative to get viral. That is why we need to locate someone with whom we can communicate all of our thoughts and concerns without feeling embarrassed. This is the stage in our lives when we decide to see a therapist. This is a complete stranger whose sole goal is to relieve you of your load. You have faith in them that all you disclose will stay private between you and them. This will be the beginning of healing of the fresh wounds in your heart. In this context, we are going to discuss the personality theory, how therapy is conducted and finally the outcome.
When looking at an example of a personality, we have to understand the meaning of having a personality. This is basically what people see in you: The feelings and unique behavior that is found in each person. The good and bad thing about a personality is that; it does not change since childhood. One grows up with the same personality. That is why people have different ways of approaching the same issue affecting them. Some may use peaceful means while others must fight for what they think is good for them. Personality may thus be described in simple terms as; individual differences. It could be expressed in different ways- our thoughts, our relationships with our loved ones and other types of interactions.
Taking a look at all the personality theorists, I would pick on John Bowlby. Seay, G., & Nuccetelli, S. (2012. This is because he generally talks of matters affecting us directly since birth. He talks of a relationship between a child and a parent, self acceptance and having a high self esteem. This is a very good approach since the youths are affected by these challenges every day. Bowlby grew up under the care of nursemaids. His mother was always busy at work and he would only see her one hour in a day. His father served in the king’s palace after the second world war 2 and he would only come home once in a year. He lost his nursemaid who was like a mother to him. Besides that, he was sent to a boarding school at an early age separating him further from the other siblings. Bowlby lacked parental connection at a very young age. Pedder, J., Winship, G., & United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. (2010). He did not learn what children ought to learn from the parents. This had an impact in his life and it was a big step missed.
There should be some proximity between a child and an adult figure. This will change their feelings and attitude towards others and they will know what to expect in later relationships. The way a parent responds to a child creates some self-model inside them and this in turn boosts confidence, self esteem and some motivation in one’s life. He explains further that it does not matter the amount of time that you spend with your kid but the social interactions that you engage them with. This could be a good piece to the parenting or those planning to have families. They will learn that watching their children grow up will change the kid’s life in appositive way.
We have to accept ourselves regardless of where we come from. Knowing who you are, why life is the way it looks, why things happen in life the way you did not expect and many more. Once you accept your current situation, you will have the guts to move out of the cocoon and search for a better life. Beat the Therapy Stigma! - Mental Health Blog Day. (May 14, 2014). Living in denial could be the worst punishment to oneself since you are’ walking dead’.
How Therapy Happens
Once you realize you are ill and a therapist could help, you have to look for the right one. It is not very easy but sometimes you just have to trust the person. You might start liking them and that is the time you know you are ready to talk to them. It is always scary talking to a stranger about your problems. It is the work of the therapist to create a good rapport between the client and them. They should watch their client’s body signs and emotions they express when discussing their issues besides listening to them. The client should be in a position to ask questions no matter how silly they may seem. It is the work of the therapist to ease the burden no matter how grave it is. Talk all your problems. If comfortable, share your past with them. Tell your therapist on your new goals. Tell them why you think you need the treatment. These are people who will show you all your bad and good patterns in life. They will help you shed off the bad habits step by step and then enhance your good traits. Sometimes people may have a low esteem thinking that they are so unlucky in life, nothing good about them. In this treatment, they will realize that they have something unique that initially could not be noticed. You will start believing in yourself and appreciate the good about you. You will realize in the end that actually the world needs you more than you thought you needed it. Boosting your confidence and esteem will be the start of a new life.
You will not need this therapy forever. Once you start feeling fine and relaxed about your life, you will be ready to leave therapy sessions. You will have to assess yourself and find out if all your goals have been achieved. In case something comes up along the way, it could be the high time to talk it out. The therapist is also supposed to assess you and ensure you achieved your goal. After that, you’ll be ready to say goodbye. From then onwards, it will be upon you to remind yourself of who you are and have some self confidence in everything you do.
