Absolute Poverty
Absolute Poverty
Families in countries with sex trafficking have low incomes. Most families depend on agriculture but own small pieces of land which are not enough to support the whole family (Leuchtag 10). The products harvested have to compete with imported foodstuffs that are cheaper and more competitive. The low income and dependence on agriculture raise the poverty levels in the country making the people vulnerable to sex trafficking due to promises of better lives. Such countries have a high population. The families are big, and the little income makes life very hard for people in the countries. The people in such economies do not have any form of education making it hard for them to secure employment in places with higher pays. The suffering of those families prompts the girl child in the family to consider prostitution from the tender age of thirteen. Pimps that control sex trafficking take advantage of the situation by enticing the young girls into jobs overseas. Instead of offering stable jobs, the pimps traffic the ladies to sex business.
Heightened levels of poverty make people vulnerable to human trafficking. The people move to other countries in search of better jobs with higher pay. However, the people end up working as slaves in their new destinations. Their families back at home continue wallowing in poverty and become vulnerable to other cartels in human trafficking business. Poverty is the primary power behind human trafficking. The trafficked individuals fall victims due to enticing job offers from the traffickers. Families that are wallowing in poverty lack any form of income making their lives very hard since they cannot afford some of the basic needs. The parents lack any finances to educate their children making them live in the same conditions as their families. The only forms of employment accessible to such people are manual jobs. The cycle continues from one generation to another. Due to hardships in securing employment and the challenges of making a living, the poverty drives the people to embrace any offer presented. The poor people fall victims to human trafficking due to promises of jobs with high income in countries abroad (Leuchtag 13). If the people had a stable income, they would afford a decent living reducing their vulnerability to promises of better jobs elsewhere.
