Amnesia Issue
Amnesia is a condition in which memory is disrupted to the point of forgetting. It can be caused by neurological or biological factors, as well as functional and psychogenic factors such as traumatic stress, mental diseases, or even psychological defensive mechanisms.
The film leaves the spectator wondering whether the father was amnesic or if it was simply a life decision. He awoke with amnesia, to the extent where he doesn't recognize his wife. There could be a possibility that the guy is not amnesic since the doctors do not see any evidence of the sickness such as brain damages or any psychological cause. Maybe he was escaping the life he could have never managed. Rick interviews some family members about his father, and he becomes fabled by what he discovered, he started seeing an unfaithful father who beats his children and one involved in a bank fraud. The traumas here could have caused the amnesia issues. It is possible that people can restore their memory if they wanted and that is what bothered Rick; he tried to interview his father and understand why was yet to remember, but he rejected. No one knows whether the guy is sick or maybe he was just looking for a new life.
Find information about Anterograde and Retrograde Amnesia, and compare both
There exist two types of amnesia, anterograde and retrograde. Anterograde amnesia is the situation where the ability of the brain to store information fails while Retrograde refers to the case where the mind cannot retrieve the data. Retrograde happens when people become unable to retrieve information that had happened before. Those with this condition usually remember meanings and actual information but cannot recall specific situations or events. The retained memory indicates the level of severity. Most recent memories are lost first with the longest one unlikely to be dislodged. Recent studies show that the memory loss extensiveness is a reflection of whether the brain damage is limited to the hippocampus or have an inclusion of temporal cortex.
On the other hand, the anterograde happens when one cannot store or even retain the current situations or events but can retrieve about what had happened before. The problem is usually permanent and probably caused by the brain hippocampus damage through accidents, surgery, alcohol or thiamine acute deficiencies referred as korsakoff’s deficiency (Harrison et al. 2498). The affected person becomes unable to convert short-term experiences into the long-term memories. In the movie, forgetting dad, this is the expected type of amnesia that Rick’s father should be suffering if he is sick. The form also is enthusiastic, and movie producers like to use it more than retrograde.
Are amnesic people able to learn new skills as, for example, playing chess?
Amnesia patients can learn new skills; have the ability to learn and retain tasks beside the graphical ones, but sometimes they fall short of the performance levels. Learning and the explicit memory is never identical. Precise knowledge can remember what was learned before, but education can be tacit meaning that people can learn new skills without having to state what they are doing. Such patients can be taught for at least an hour a day on the same thing. Teachers should tap the implicit learning system rather than the explicit memory.
Conclusion
Habit memories can get preserved better than the event and fact memories. At the return time, the older one is recalled first and continues up to the most recent. There is no available medication for the sudden loss of memory, but physicians have succeeded in several types of therapy such as developing strategies and techniques to deal with short lasting memories and the occupational therapists who replace the lost information.
