Analyzing the BCP: How Information was gotten and Synthesized into the Business Plan
The first thing in executing the plan (ABC Supply Company). I investigated renowned private firms in America and made BCP for ABC supply. The facilities of these companies were discovered to be situated at areas that may experience power outages and earthquakes (Yang et al. 735). These organization require planned procedures to execute should any of these events occur, because the firms greatly require the information system in its operations. The second step is obtaining information on the subject of the BCP. Sources for the literature were searched using the internet using Google tool through several keywords derived from the topic. Upon keying the main words on the Google searching tool, each statement produced more than 800 results that composed of journals, websites, and books. The search engine was then customized to generate sources of within the range of ten years, which reduced the number of results considerably. The journal articles that with a topic that related to the main words and the overall topic of this study were carefully selected and their abstract examined to determine their relevance to this study. Websites, books and those articles that did not relate to the topic were excluded. Also, the majority of the articles chose were those published from 2010 up to date to ensure that literature is up to date with the current findings and trends of pregnant women oral health. However, there some articles selected that were published earlier but are within the range of 10 years to offer earlier findings that were compared with the recent studies. The selection also considered only peer reviewed articles to ensure that the information gathered was both credible and first hand.
The following stage involved an actual synthesis of the plan using the information already gathered about the organization and development of a BCP plan. More importantly, it was important to focus on the following segments: critical functions, recovery time objectives, recovery point objectives, resource requirements, vital records, relocation process, revision method, executive summary, decision process including succession. Under these sections, it was fundamental to understand the products and kind of business ABC Supply engages in to capture the most crucial resources needed to carry out business operations. Next, it was critical to comprehend the risks the organization is likely to encounter which could impact its continuity significantly. The process involved identification of the external and internal threats that lead to the development of continuity plan that synthesized soft and hard assets to proved ABC Supply Company with effective disruption prevention and recovery procedures. The step was important for identifying the measures that could be implemented to manage or reduce the determined risk (Yang et al. 735). The most critical interruption that could be encountered by the company includes interferences of the business due to energy supply, loss of data due to attack on fundamental information systems and fire because there as several construction materials that could cause a fire if not well handled. Also, the strategy led to identification plans for evacuation in case an incident occurs.
Under the critical functions, it was important to determine the systems of the company that could result in significant operation jeopardy if they were interrupted for days or weeks. Recovery time objectives entailed identifying the maximum tolerate length of time that the ABC Supply systems, network, and computer must be restored after the disaster has occurred to avoid unacceptable business consequences that could result in discontinuity of operation. The recovery point objectives led to the identification of the highest targeted period in which the firm's data might be lost from the information system due to a power outage and threats to its databases and network security (Law and Gary 15). Also, it was important to understand the resource requirements which are the minimum for a successful recovery. The next step involved identifying ABC's vital records which include files, document, and data necessary to recreate the firm's financial position. The relocation process provided the steps to be followed when business operations in the affected facility should be relocated to an alternative site due to the severity of the event and difficult of a quick recovery.
Due to the nature and evolution of information system threats and risk, it was imperative to develop methods for revising the plan. It is crucial for ABC Supply Company to review the strategy semi-annually to incorporate changes to mitigate perceived problems efficiently. Finally, the decision process included succession which provides the procedure and people involved to ensure the plan is inherited successfully from current executive members to the next (Law and Gary 15). The step is critical for ABC to ensure continuity of business protection.
