Bridge Design and Construction
To make travelling and interactions between diverse places easier
We had recently built a new bridge. This is to help both locals and visitors in the region. The bridge was important to connect people as they can travel with it using different means. This shows the reality of the bridge's design.
Considering vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians
Over the years, many great bridges have been built. But they were only built to be used by vehicles. While building this bridge, vehicles, cyclists, and even pedestrians were considered. However, at first the bridge was built to only carry small and lightweight vehicles. So, heavy duty machines and vehicles cannot pass through this bridge.
Catering to cyclists and pedestrians
In addition to the latter, the design of the bridge caters to cyclists as parts of the main users of the bridge. We designed the bridge to have a designated path flow where cyclists can cycle with minimal contact with pedestrians. This is due to the fact that when designing the bridge, we had in mind that the majority of the population who will be accessing the bridge will be pedestrians. As such, very one, inclusive of disabled people can cross the bridge on foot or through wheelchairs. We felt it was necessary to make the bridge in such a way that the disabled members of the society could easily use it because of the challenges that they face thus far. Commuting to different places for persons with disabilities can heavily be a burden because most of our public roads, bridges and other modes of transportation rarely take their needs into consideration. To make it easier for them as members of the society, we ensured that the design was compatible with their needs thus making it user-friendly for every member of the society.
A gentle slope for exercise
Furthermore, the slope of the bridge is also not too high. It is a gentle slope that people can walk up or down with ease. We retained the slope of the bridge as a mechanism that would force people to get some form of exercise while using the bridge. This best applies to pedestrians who are on foot. The main reason for this is that our environments, both at work and home, can be a bit demanding to allow for workout times. Also, the economic elements are a bit strenuous to this important aspect of life. That is why; walking is becoming one of the most sought out forms of workout for people who have limited resources and time to enroll for a gym. It was, therefore, part of our strategy to design a gentle slope that when one is walking down or up, the increase the intensity of their walk for that period of time.
Safety measures
Lastly, the design takes into consideration every safety measure that needs to be accounted for. The location is well lit, to allow for the bridge to be used at night and to add to this, the edges are well secured to prevent possible fallouts. There are also signposts to show the maximum weight the bridge can hold at any given moment thus ensuring it is not overloaded. In general, the design of the bridge took into consideration not only the need to accommodate vehicles, cyclist, and pedestrians but the disabled as well. Also, it is safely secured at the edges and in terms of material weight without forgetting the aspect of proper lighting for 24 hours accessibility.
