Charter Schools: A Threat to the Democratic Education System
It is regrettable that most Americans do not understand the importance of public colleges and how life could be barring them. Public schools are a center for surmounting many inequalities due to the fact that they educate all the children in the neighborhood. Besides, public schools remain to be democratically to blame through the school boards that are elected locally. By having strict rules such a compulsory attendance, public schools produce licensed professionals, unlike the charter schools. Since the introduction of constitution schools, there is little guarantee that the school democracy or moral values are going to survive in the future. Such possibility of no future assurance for the continuation of the school democracy raises various questions. It is unfortunate to see our government on the front line not being able to restore the public schools. Our public schools have been turned into businesses; therefore, no longer serving the interest of the students, but the benefit of prominent billionaires (Jones & Ken 25). I can blame the government because of its failure to eliminate corruption. The media is also another body to be condemned because it is manipulated and used as a channel for communicating positive outcomes concerning charter schools, whereby in the real sense it is the opposite.
To restore school democracy in our schools, various questions need answers: What is a charter school? How do charter schools differ with public schools? Are all charter school similar? What is the meaning of a charter management organization? Who gives authority in the charter schools? How are charter schools started? Who serves and attends charter schools? Who funds charter schools? Do the teachers in charter schools certified in working at such institutions? What makes charter schools differ? After such questions, the main problem mainly lies on the government’s fault (Molnar & Alex 19). I think it is the high time our government enacts a law concerning how the growth of charter schools should be controlled. If not so, school democracy and practice of noble deeds will never be restored. Our children will continue growing up to be unproductive in their dreams and we the parents will be blamed for failing to be accountable.
