Children’s Facilities Attributes
Close to 70% of the American children under the age of six actively take part in some form of care away from domestic while their dad and mom are at work. Since most of these children spend a lot of their time in the facilities, they need to be built to particular specifications and attributes that grant safety, an environment which is appropriate for the children, and a good nurturing ground. There are numerous facilities the place children can be found, and they encompass healthcare facilities, daycare facilities, playgrounds among other. In this case, toddler development facility has been selected. Child development centers need to be those that provide quality care to the children while bettering their growth and improvement as well. Therefore, it is a mandatory requirement when constructing these facilities that they are properly illuminated. Additionally, the facilities should be those which offer a broad range of both active and passive activities to accommodate the children’s playful nature (Greenman, 2008). They should also be designed so that they provide for the needs of the parents as well as the staffs, while also creating an appropriate staff-child relationship boosting.
According to Greenman (2008), when constructing children’s facilities, the following must be considered:
- The types of spaces, for example, meeting spaces for children and adults, child-friendly classrooms, outdoor and indoor play areas, clinics, and food service centers.
- The facility should be home-like where children should be able to relax; there should be sufficient natural light, children should feel safe and secure, and they should be able to play comfortably.
- They should be able to encourage autonomy, for example, children should be free to express feelings, choose which toys to play with, and choose their friends and playmates.
- Additionally, the facilities should be safe, secure, and healthy through strategies such as: children are not abused by adults, there are good washing facilities and attention is paid to indoor ventilation.
