Coral Reef Fish Research
Environmental Biology is a application that covers the scientific study of the functions, interaction, origins, and natural records of living populations, species, communities and the whole ecosystem whilst having a relationship to the dynamic environmental processes. The reefs have an ecological role of cycling vitamins from sea grass beds and swamps to open sea fisheries. More than 380 different species of coral fish exists among which a few species well-knownshows the distinguished behavior of parental care of the younger ones. The aim of this essay is to give a precis on how the article under study relates to environmental biology. The essay will additionally explain how the mentioned coral fish herein is special from other coral reef fish.
The coral reef provides an extensive ground for the habitation of the coral reef fishes through the provision of the attachment areas and the hiding place from predators. The nutrients provided by the coral reefs helps in the delivery of food necessary for the survival of the fish thereby bringing about ecological balance ( Lieske, 2001). Most of the coral fish do not exhibit parental care to their young ones, they are left on their own and usually carried by waves to diverse sea whereby a small percentage survives due to the destructive environmental forces. Lack of parental care results in the small numbers of the coral reef fish existing in the seas. On the contrary, the Alelia damselfish takes care of the young ones up to the age where they can survive on their own. Parental care thus helps in boosting survival chances of the babies bringing about increased overall species population. Parental care is disadvantageous to the young ones because it denies them a chance of colonizing new niches for maximum utilization of the diverse coral reef ecology.
This article helps learners and the entire human population to gain more knowledge concerning the coral reef ecology and the survival techniques exhibited by various species.
