This research revolves around the understanding that learning environments influence academic performance and satisfaction as evident through current college designs. In this study, it is assumed that creating an environment that benefits the students will increase their satisfaction and motivation. In addition, the study aims at drawing more attention to building designs and structures that can help staff with impacting knowledge to learners, thereby making the government and organizations focus on this aspect when providing revenues for this cause. In this study, it is safely assumed that creating an environment that would benefit the students would increase their satisfaction and motivation; put simply, clean, safe, quiet, healthy and comfortable are crucial for successful teaching and learning.
Research Question:
The cardinal research question for this study is, “Why college programs need specifically designed spaces?” The goal is to determine interior design aspects from the perspective of lecturers and students that can boost comfort and acquisition of knowledge. Today, environmental elements such as indoor air quality, thermal comfort, and ventilation are not usually included in the budget the reason being students, particularly in the private sector, are the main source of revenue. However, it is hypothesized an increase in teacher and student satisfaction increase revenue through staff retention and quality education.
Methods:
The research employ questionnaire as the method of data collection. The questionnaires will be issued to the teaching staff and students through print media or emails. Next, the data will be scrutinized via a perspective of interior design after which design solutions will be developed using identified environmental factors.
Validity:
As mentioned earlier, the study will be conducted through a diverse sample of participants to understand various learning environments and perceptions. The fact that the participants will be people working or schooling in the environment shows the validity of the data. Lastly, the assumption there are no other factors affecting staff retention besides environmental factors introduces bias which can affect data validity.
