Dihybrid Crossing
Inheritance Patterns in Dihybrid Crosses
In this case, all parents show heterozygous, and there is one allele representing one trait displaying total dominance. Also, both parents show a variety of stress in the context of Mendelian genetics. For a dihybrid cross, we expect that phenotypes will have a ratio of 9:3:3:1, and this ratio represents a total of sixteen possible combinations of alleles as proven in figure 1 below. Therefore, the probabilities for all the results in this cross will be 0.5625, 0.1875, 0.1875 and 0.0625.
Predicting Phenotypes
The reasoning behind this conclusion is that we are probably to have 9 combinations showing dominance. Offsprings that occur and fall in this category will exhibit alleles showing a dominant phenotype. Of the 16 possible combinations, two sets of three will occur with offsprings that display a dominant phenotype and a recessive phenotype (Fletcher et al. 38). The last mix, which happens only once will give rise to an offspring showing the double recessive phenotype.
This type of pattern will only happen if a pair of traits is dominant. Where no single allele is dominant, other types of combinations are likely to occur, and those phenotypes will arise in the same probabilities as those seen in the case of the existing genotypes.
Influence of Homozygous Parents
Also, this outcome is likely to occur where one of the parents has traits that are homozygous. In such a scenario, alleles from a parent who is homozygous will influence the variability of the outcome. In the case of a 2 trait event involving a parent who is homozygous and another that is heterozygous, we are likely to have an outcome consisting of four distinct phenotypes, and each has an equal chance of occurring (Fletcher et al. 39). In the case of the plants, in this case, offsprings will exhibit all four characteristics.
