Documentary of Ancient Egyp's Buildings
The Ancient Egypt and its Rich History
The ancient Egypt had a rich history of civilization as proven in various documentaries. However, there are several factors of its history that have been studies. The buildings and special architecture have been documented in writing and film. A documentary produced by Janet R Smith titled ANCIENT EGYPT. Provide an exhaustive audio-visual explanation of such features as pyramids, Tombs, amongst others. The documentary lists the techniques and raw substances used to build the mighty structures that dot a number parts of Egypt to date. Although the documentary cover matters done more than 5000 years ago, the presentation looks to follow a chronology of events as recorded and recovered by archeologists, Egyptologists and anthropologists.
The Techniques and Raw Substances Used in Construction
The documentary gives fascinating scenery and approaches that Egyptian applied to develop complex structures and buildings that included pyramids, Temples, and the Nile. From the documentary, it’s evident that Egyptian used mud bricks and stones as the core raw materials for building. The royal palaces were built using blocks while tombs and temples were built using stones. The documentary explains vividly that pyramids were built as tombs for kings, queens, and royal kins. The pyramids were eight out of which three were built in Gaza plateau. The “Great Pyramid” was the best of all and belonged to Pharaoh Khufu. The documentary also exhibit the creativity applied in construction of the Great Sphinx, Karnak, Abu Simbel, Edfu and Beni Hassan tombs in addition to the eight famous pyramids. Djoser architectural revolution produced the step pyramid and related sophisticated buildings that have remained the landmark of modern Egypt.
Limitations and Gaps in the Documentary
While the documentary attempts to reconstruct the ancient Egypt, it provides limited information on some aspects of the building process. For instance, it is evident that stones and blocks used to build the mighty pyramids were too heavy but limited information is shown on how they were transported. Besides, the technology used to arrange the blocks in pyramids is not clearly reconstructed in the documentary. There is conflicting information as to the role of slaves and native Egyptians pertaining to the labor provision. In essence, the documentary seems to leave gaps in some parts especially on the civilization process that culminated to the invention of pyramids. However, the acquisition of water and soil in the river Nile is more persuasive in the documentary.
Potential Improvements for the Documentary
If I were the producer of this documentary, I would offer an in-depth account of various pharaohs and their contributions towards the civilization that gave birth to pyramids technology, internal structure of the tomb, and the significance of river Nile. I would also explain the amount of labor used to make and carry such big blocks and the equivalence in modern metrics. I would equally emphasize the concept used in making pillars. The documentary seems to rely on a reconstructed fragment of information that is responsible for some missing information. The overriding idea in the documentary is the archeological revolution that has redefined the anthropological research.
