Emergency Response
As an emergency responder, I would begin with preserving the accident site from further injuries. This could involve looking for space to park implicitly behind the incident to avoid oncoming traffic. Oncoming traffic may be risky since it may turnover into the vehicle parked at the scene. It will be important to leave on hazard lights if they are available. Putting on a high-visibility jacket, which is necessary for preventing us from looking like causalities. Wearing protective gear helps in covering exposed skin with gloves that may be exposed to blood contamination. Getting rid of bystanders to ensure they are away from further injury. They can be taken to warning triangles away from the road (Spöttl and Ziegler 29).
Triage
It involves putting injuries and demands in priority order. Including, Immediate, Urgent, and Delayed response.
- Immediate - patients in this category involve, the driver, the infant and female passenger
- Urgent - patients here include the three teens shouting for help.
- Delayed - the elderly and overweight man will be evacuated at this point because they can alleviate more damage.
According to this scenario, the immediate, urgent and delayed response will be appropriate since there are no dead causalities on the ground (Mullan 7).
Assessment
It involves evaluating the scenario and the extent of injury awaiting possible intervention. It is important to talk to conscious patients and reassure them of safety because they could be very anxious. For instance, the senior man whose irregular pulse could be caused by worry. Talking to the injured patients and asking which part of the body hurts to have a brief idea of the injuries incurred. For example, the three teens who are shouting for help with cuts and bruises. It is very critical to assess the degree of pain since most car injuries could cause hemorrhage.
