Environmental Aspects Empacting Quality of Education in Universities

Environmental design factors have a significant impact on the quality of education in universities. The design factors each cover the internal and external areas of the university. The plan would include the proper use of the architect, interior designer, exterior fashion designer and structural engineers among other professional practitioners in the faculty of the built environment. This suggests that the design of furniture and different physical structures affects the studying quality through causing overcrowding, much less satisfaction, comfort, noise, potential of health hazards and risky environments in universities. The research aims at determining how the elements of the environmental design, including structures and interior design, affects the quality of education .

The current environmental design in most universities has a direct impact on academic performance.The generational realization on the importance of education, has caused many people to enroll in universities .Overcrowding has become common in universities due to global overpopulation with limited resources. Such strain causesnoise, unsafe structures and an unclean environment .The environment leaves many of the staff unmotivated due to congestion. Improvement in the environment in areas such as lighting, eased movement and adequate study spaces aids in learning.

Natural lighting is among the most essential components of modern architecture. Lighting and color has the ability to influence the well-being of all people. In a structural set-up like a university, it affects the physical and mental state of the student or learner. It has been proved that if lighting is done well, it evokes positive emotional responses on the student or learner .Despite the advantages of natural lighting. It has its disadvantages .Excessive thermal radiation disrupts learning. Solar glare, privacy and security are an issue an architect has to deal with when letting light in.This will guard the students against factors that impede learning .Research agrees with the importance of light use in design. The architectural design of an educative institution should ensure the students do not strain to see by providing enough lighting .Lighting, being a product of burning gases, should entail temperature control (Edwards, 2013).

Accessibility of the campus is important. Eased movement should a priority in the university’s design at the initial planning stage before construction .The campus’ building design should be made in such a manner that it is easily accessible those in need of it .It is important to consider special groups like the disabled . Eased accessibility to the right places causes a flowing programme which saves on time and limits frustration.

The university should be equipped with equitable facilities .Such facilities should be aimed at establishing a wholesome individual, rather than just learning. The students should be able to exercise in respective places or taking comfortable long walks. Exercise helps the brain get greater access to oxygen through stimulating blood vessels. Advocating for exercise increases the students’ performance of all functions positively (Galster, 2012).

Physical structures and furniture are important for a building design. .The use of appropriate furniture comes in handy when quick rearrangements need to be done as is common with university programmes .The comfort of the students can be enhanced by use of the appropriate furniture. The relayed content delivered to the students in the teaching and learning experience therefore becomes positive and fulfilling. Energy saving initiatives should be encouraged such as use of solar panels to save on electricity.

A room’s structure influences a student’s ability to study. It is important to avoid crowding to facilitate a more relaxed environment. Spacing in hotels and classrooms ensures good health. This manifests to more qualitative grades and better outputs like theatre acts .The type of material used on the construction design matters. High quality materials helps with stability and saves on future costs. When this is achieved, time is saved with minimal interruptions (Kolarevic, 2013).

Environmental design factors have a great impact on education quality in universities. Lecture halls with limited spacing result in overcrowding, less satisfaction , less comfort and the potential for hazards .Low quality construction,poor coloring and lighting affect the the effectiveness of learning .
