This case involves a lot of problems. The first problem is what is called familiarity threat because the fact that Quanella is working with a friend who is taking advantage of the friendship to abscond her duties by taking breaks during working hours against the rules, probably because she know the friend cannot report her to the authorities.
The second problem is that Quanella’s friend does not respect her job nor the rules of the organization she is working for, her attitude is a don’t care one because she is not worried about it at all even when the friend has told her of the complains. The other problem in this case is that there is lack of supervision of work. Clearly, Quanella’s friend needs supervision so that she can do her duties well which is lacking at the moment.
This problem clearly needed supervision so that employees could do their jobs well because the way things are suggest a lack of supervisory role. The other solution to this problem is lack of policy guidelines on how work should be done and how employees need to conduct themselves at the workplace. Through this policy, employees like Quanella’s friend could not abscond their duties because the policy would direct them accordingly on what to do and what not do. In addition, there is a need for organization culture that nurtures good work ethics and motivates employees to work whole heartedly.
In a nutshell, the problems in this case are as a result of a lack in policy directive towards work ethics and it is why employees can afford to take breaks which are not acceptable. To solve this, a policy directive would do the magic.
