Art: Exploration of Florida by Laudonniere and Ribault
This piece of American artwork objective is to depict the exploration of Florida in the 16th century which used to be carried out by Ribault and Laudonniere. More precisely, the art dates again to 1564 as per the information on the placard. The object is in black and gray colors. There are three large sailing ships in what appears to be an ocean. Additionally, there are two different smaller boats which are loaded with sailors, and there also appears to be a lion-like confronted boat. All the ships and the boats appear to be moving in the identical direction on the East. The top phase of the object has pieces of islands which are separated by the ocean extensions. Each of the river-like ocean extensions is clearly named. On the surfaces of the islands, there are clustered trees with the other parts being bear with little vegetation.
This object is an Early Renaissance Madonna and Child art. The object falls in this category because it was painted during the period of the Grand Tour which provided most of the painting basis (Pater, Walter, and Donald L. Hill 120). The trips were mostly taken by large groups of Americans typically spending a whole full year for cultural and sightseeing purposes. During the time when this art is based upon, there was an increased wealth and trade routes had to be established to help spread ideas and immerse more wealth. Thus, the characteristics of renaissance possessed with this piece of art are the fact seen with sailors moving in overloaded boats to symbolize the grand tour that was taking place at that time. Additionally, the labeling of the routes associates with the spreading of the ideas, an act the sailors did to accrue more wealth.
