Genetic Analysis of Individual Classification
Over the years, the categorical division of human beings has been hung or anchored on the factors of race and ethnical foundations. Majority of people tend to use their physical features and other shared cultural traits to categorize themselves into specific sects. The study of genetics has taken serious considerations in this point of concern and biological analysts have thus carried out researches to pinpoint the biological relationship that exists between sets of people of the same race. In as much as these people classify themselves based on their physical appearance and cultural foundations, the biological ramification regarding the classification of individuals has birthed a new ideology, thus studies show that the two ramifications differ to some point. Therefore, since the classification of individuals based on race has shown great challenges, it is therefore accurate to conduct a biological analysis of the individuals and group them according to their genetic composition rather than physical characteristics.
The classification of individuals based on genetic makeup has proved to be accurate and relevant as compared to the physical and cultural analysis. Indeed, it is evident that genetic analysis can classify individuals according to their geographic origin (Bamshad and Olson, 82). This has been made possible through the use a certain piece of DNA called Alu polymorphisms that is used to determine the relationship that exists between populations. It is clear that individuals with the same Alu patterns tend to originate from the same geographical locations and thus can be classified as one group.
Based on the research findings, the biological classification of individuals can be greatly used in administering medical treatment to individuals. For instance, sickle cell disease is common to African individuals whilst cystic fibrosis is prone to the Americans. For this reason, administration of medical treatment can be made efficient since doctors can use such information to provide therapy and other medical services. Indeed, mere analysis of racial traits cannot be used to provide such medical services and thus medical practitioners need to conduct clinical trials so as to gather genetic information about individuals (Bamshad and Olson, 84). In further research, the genetic difference that arises between racial and ethnic groups can have a medical importance and doctors can use such information in administering medical services efficiently.
One common factor that both racial and biological classification tends to agree with is that individuals from the same population tend to show similarities in both physical characteristics and their genetic makeup. This is because the grouped individuals originate from the same ancestral backgrounds and experience the same climate factors due to the geographic location. However, the use of the notion of race can be erroneous in classifying individuals since the physical traits such as skin color and facial features can provide different results compared to the biological results. For instance, the populations of Sub-Saharan Africa may possess the same physical characteristics but portray different genetic makeup.
In conclusion, the study of genetics has experienced tension in the biological significance of racial and ethnic categories and more studies needs to be carried out so as to provide this satisfaction. The contention between the use of genetic data in classification of individuals and use of physical racial traits is evident and most researches prove that biological analysis is more efficient. More relevance has been generated from genetic involvement in classification of individuals and its application has been used in the provision of medical services. Furthermore, the information derived from the genetic makeup of individuals can be used to indicate the geographical location of the individuals and thus classify them into groups accordingly. Therefore, despite the high cost of the involvement of genetic research in classification of individuals, its use in areas such as medical services has proved to be successful.
