Hispanic American literature
Hispanic American literature depicts the social and political nuances of the disadvantaged group because of their ongoing hardships and difficulty. The three lectures demonstrate my view, through the magic of wordes which was once called 'magical realism', the very battle of the Spanish-American people. The lectures show a rich picture of these people's episodes to achieve their present identity. Rolando Hinojosa describes the roots of the new literary movement of the Chicano people in depth in this Migrant Earth. The literature was developed as the Spanish literature, showing their constant difficulties. The movement was initiated by Tomas Rivera for which he was awarded his first national award. I think Hinojosa facilitated the plight of Hispanics through his words that were well received by the English-language audience.
The Hammon and the Beans are written by Américo Parédes depicts the consisitent struggles of the Hispannics through the story of a boy in 1920. The whole story takes place in Jonesville-on-the-Grande, a small town on the Texas side of the Rio Grande. Chonita, a nine year old girl who shouts “give me the Hammon and the Beans”, gets missing and so do the other girls. I believe the whole episode is witnessed by the boy through his own transformation into a 30 year old man.
The Flying bus represents a very bold account of the hardships of the Hispanic-Americans. The text gives an in-depth account of the harsh realities that did hijack the own cultural and political etiquettes of the Hispanic society. I think the author marks the importance of preservation of Hispanic culture in the United States. He argues that the roots of the cultural identity need to be replanted from Puerto Rico to New York and back. It would boost the crux of human experience and consciousness.
I think that all the tree texts illustrate the difficulties to feel cultural independence and freedom, the freedom from cultural and political domination that is posed on the population. Hinojosa, Parédes, and Sánchez represent their sociocultural, political, and economic struggles through their distinctive style and presentation. All the three texts find a very prominent relevance with the lost cultural identity of the Hispanics who still do hope to live it again.
