Human existence on the planet earth
In regards to human existence on the planet earth, many questions have been raised in an try to find the beginning of the human species. To get the answers, many social scientists across the world have long gone an extra mile in the quest of proving the beginning of human species. Therefore, in the undertaking of this film review assignment, the predominant aim will be to take a look at the various key factors brought on the desk regarding the existence of humans in the world as explained in the movie
Becoming Human.
The biggest questions requested by the bodily anthropologists in the film
In the film, physical anthropologists raised necessary issues related to the existence of human on earth as well as how they dominated the planet over other species like the Homo erectus. The first question asked is on how the human species dispersed to almost all parts of the world from Africa. The second question posed by the Anthropologists is what made Homo sapiens different from other species such that they took over planet earth. The uniqueness of the other species that existed before the Homo sapiens is also another vital concern brought about in the film.
The different types of evidence or data used in attempting to answer the questions raised
In the quest of answering the above questions, the Physical Anthropologists have come up with different proves to support their claims. For instance, the Turkana boy is said to have the origin of Africa. The scientists claim that the first remains of the early man were discovered in Africa. The early man started moving to other parts of the world like Europe and Asia. To prove the claims, the Physical Anthropologists found evidence in China and Spain. The Anthropologists used the remains of 100,000 years old boy to show the difference between the Homo erectus and Homo sapiens. The difference in the shape and the size of the skull between the Homo erectus and Homo sapiens were also other proves to the existence of the human species in the world (Townsley, Becoming Human).
How the Neanderthals were different from the Homo sapiens
The Neanderthals had a bigger brain regarding the mass than Homo sapiens. The brains were to correspond to the body weight of the Neanderthals which were much larger than those of Homo sapiens. Another difference was the shelter. The Neanderthals stayed in caves, unlike the Homo sapiens who have houses as their shelter. Also, the Homo sapiens have a larger brain capacity than the Neanderthals. The fact that the Homo sapiens could occupy planet earth and utilize the resources in it better than the Neanderthals meant that they had a more advanced brain capacity. Lastly, the Neanderthals were hunters and gatherers. They depended on animals and fruits from plants to survive, unlike the Homo sapiens who have more advanced ways of surviving (Townsley, Becoming Human).
Why early humans almost became extinct 140,000 years ago
During the early Stone Age, there was an extreme change in climate. The climatic conditions forced the early man to disunite and stay in small groups. The groups stayed independently without getting concerned about each other’s affairs. The disintegration meant a discontinuation in the multiplication of the human species on earth. When they came back to stay together, the human population started rising again up to today where it is about 6.6 billion (Townsley, Becoming Human). With the later dispersal of the human species to the other parts of the world, the multiplication continued increasing thus preventing the extinction of the human population on earth.
The exact bottleneck effect and its significance in understanding human variation today
With the dispersal of the early man from Africa to other parts of the world, it meant that people had to develop differently. The harsh climatic conditions in Africa necessitated the difference in skin color as well as other body differences. Also, the ones who migrated to the European parts developed differently so as to accommodate the climatic changes in their areas. Thus, there are certainly noticeable differences between the human species depending on their habitation on planet earth.
