Internet Usage Effects
The technology of the real world has had both positive and negative effects on the lives of people today. The internet has been around for a while, and it, too, has its ups and downs. After being regarded as the most useful tool for making people's lives in the urban world more secure and easy, the internet has been associated with some negative consequences. It all depends on who is using it. For those who wish to use this platform productively, it presents several important opportunities to achieve this task. However, every market has its madman and the internet too as individuals determined to use it maliciously for their selfish interests (Singaravelu, Stewart, Adams, Simkin, & Hawton, 2015). The paper discusses and expounds on the effects of using the internet in the contemporary world while considering both the positive together with the adverse effects.
Discussion
As already stated earlier that the internet itself was developed with the best intention of benefiting humanity and making the lives of individual comfortable. However, it is the human beings who chose to use the internet positively or negatively. Despite the choice, the tool itself has its advantages as well as demerits (Singaravelu et al., 2015).
Positive Effects
The internet has made researching and obtaining reliable information for both researcher and student easier. Before the development of the electronic means of data and information collection, the said researchers together with students had to go out of their way and spent a significant amount of time in the library for them to access the right piece of material, which may be relevant to their research. In this modern world, everyone can easily obtain information from the comfort of his or her homes or offices on the internet. The only requirement is just a subscription of the recommended sites (Singaravelu et al., 2015).
Negative Effects
The internet has come with online games, which seemingly replaced the offline games, which were non-interactive. The online games are more interactive and are addictive. More individuals are taking too much time on games, which could otherwise be used to do something productive (Muusses, Finkenauer, Kerkhof, & Righetti, 2015).
The internet makes individual loses their human touch. With the internet, one concentrates more on their imaginary friends over the social as well as gaming platforms and completely forgets about the real people surrounding them who require their attention and love. Most of the social platforms such as Twitter and Facebook give more significance to the online friend as compared to the actual loved ones. The addiction to the internet makes people wholly withdrawn from their families and friends (Muusses et al., 2015).
The internet has come with the most disgusting thing, which is the widespread and easy access to pornographic material. With the internet, anyone can upload obscene content online for the purpose that suits him or her best. The children who have not matured cognitively are corrupted with this exposure to mature content (Muusses et al., 2015).
Finally, the most alarming thing is the increased rates of cybercrimes. Those with criminal minds are using the advantage of easy access to crucial information from the internet to their malicious intent. The privacy of individuals has been infringed with most of them losing a lot of money due to fraudster are all over the internet (Muusses et al., 2015).
Conclusion
In conclusion, as portrayed the internet has both pros and cons. However, from our discussion, the disadvantage of the internet depends on the choice of an individual whether to use it positively or negatively. Something like addiction can be controlled while filtering method can be used to do away with any pornographic content. The invention of the internet was the best thing ever to happen.
