Lab Report explaining Diet Analysis
Diet analysis is very important and must be done frequently to keep track of what we consume or take into our body. It helps us to keep track of the food that we take and also know what to fix in what we eat. Some individuals usually have to monitor their calorie intake, their carbs, fats, proteins, sodium, and vitamins, among other macro and micronutrients.
Materials and methods
A weighing scale is needed to determine the weight and height of the subject before you can input any information into the fitness pal website. The materials you use during the diet analysis exercise includes a site to calculate the dietary intake. My fitness pal is a website that can help one to track his/her intake as it provides calorie count and suggestions on how to improve on one’s diet and lifestyle. The site also calculates the amount of macro and micronutrients you are consuming in each meal. This site was used to determine the count of the foods that were taken by the subject. The site was also helpful in getting the BMI of the subject.
The procedure of this analysis was to pick three days that are not consecutive on the calendar and record three-day diets in three different tables and monitor certain three food products in those meals and compare them to nutritional RDA. In our case, we chose to control the number of calories consumed, fats, proteins and the sodium content in the subject’s food intake. Drinks such as water and other non-nutritious beverages were not included in the three-day logs.
Results
The experiment resulted in three tables showing the three-day diet logs.

Discussion
From the results, the subject’s calorie intake was inadequate for a male of 19 years of age. Based on my fitness pal website, the Estimated Energy Requirement for the subject is 2270kcal. The subject was at an average weight of 138 pounds, but he was consuming less than what was required of him. The average number of calories which he consumed per day was 1496kcal while the Estimated Energy Required is 2270kcal. This was below the recommended levels by 774kcal. The Recommend daily allowance for cumulative fats for the subject is 76g while the average fats daily consumed by the subject was 58.6, therefore the subject was taking 17.4g less the correct amount of fats recommended for him which is 76g (Nutritional Health Resource). The RDA for protein for the subject is 114g while the average daily intake for the subject is 65g this is 49g less than the required amount. Finally, the RDA for sodium is 2300mg while the average daily intake for the subject is 1803 mg this is less the recommended daily intake by 497 (Nutritional Health Resource).
Conclusion
Generally, the subject was underfeeding and required to supplement his deficiency with healthy snacks in between meals. The research also figured that if the subject was to continue with the same diet, he would lose weight gradually and eventually he might develop complications, such as weakening of the immune system and dysfunction of body muscles, due to undernutrition (Palande). A fascinating finding is that the apple fruit contained none of the food substances we were investigating. The apple fruit had zero fat, protein or sodium count.
