Leadership is the exercise of authority to motivate people to realize interprofessional functioning and collaboration with pertinent stakeholders. An organization or healthcare system can be led by a variety of leaders. Each type of leader is distinguished by the leadership style they use as well as the management philosophies and competencies they possess (Baack, 2017). An individual's leadership style reveals their attitude, demeanor, and ability to foster positive interprofessional coordination. However, some of the leaders are not competent enough to carry out their responsibility appropriately hence they might adopt a leadership style that conceals their limitations.
Democratic leadership As the Best Leadership Style
In democratic leadership, every employee is given a chance to make their contribution and assist in arriving at the appropriate decision (Baack, 2017). A democratic leader does not force his/her opinion on others but offers them the opportunity to present their perspectives on the matter of discussion. The leader waits for employees to debate about an issue, air their views, give out their suggestions, and then weighs the options before making appropriate decisions (Baack, 2017). Democratic leadership promotes teamwork and dignifies subordinates making them motivated to participate in achieving organization goals. A democratic leader delegates most his/her responsibilities to subordinates, hence giving them the opportunity to make decisions for their respective teams (Baack, 2017). Democratic leadership supports the nurturing of leaders from subordinates and gives them management experience through team projects. Moreover, democratic leadership promotes excellent communication between the management and subordinates. The leadership style ensures the application of proper communication strategies hence grievances of employees is presented to the administration promptly (Baack, 2017). By creating a good rapport with the subordinates, the democratic leader can understand the needs of most employees hence gets the advantage of adequately addressing them. Knowing the problems facing employees in time gives the democratic leader ample time to find solutions to address them.
It suffices to mention that a good leader ought to be well-liked by the employees in an organization. As a person in the leadership position, your decisions must appeal to the subordinates. Collective responsibility is imperative in driving change and development within a company. Employees too must feel part and parcel of decision-making group in a firm. It is critical to mention that allowing each worker to contribute to planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting inspires confidence (Baack, 2017). Evidence shows that a democratic leadership provides directions and goals to team members who are already enthusiastic about the planned activities.
Motivation is critical to employee satisfaction at work. As a result, it is always vital to consider their point of views. Employees respect and listen to leaders who are ready to objectively look into and address their needs (Baack, 2017). Further, this type of leadership allows for accountability because employees are permitted to take some decisions on their own and report later. There is always a high degree of flexibility in deciding essential issues that affect firms.
