My First Professor
Mathematics as a Struggle
Mathematics was not my favorite lesson in high school. I struggled to comprehend the formulas used in subjects such as trigonometry. My success in the subject suffered as a result of the difficulty. Because of my poor grades, I disliked both the subject and the teacher. Regardless of how hard I worked on the topic, my grades remained poor. Algebra and trigonometry were the most difficult subjects for me. In grade 10, our mathematics teacher transferred to another school, and our institution assigned us another teacher named Miss Ann. Because of her consistent inspiration, the new mentor quickly became my favorite, and my results improved as a result. Miss Ann was tactical in her teaching (Stronge 124). Whenever she approached a new topic, she presented it in a manner that was easy to understand for all students. She always started with simple calculations before tackling the complex ones. In one term, my attitude towards the subject changed positively. I began finding it easier to understand the formula as well as the executing the calculations.
Inspiration and Motivation
Our mathematics teacher was motivational to the students. She used to narrate stories of people who failed academically but succeeded in life. She changed the perception of many who equated academic failure with the failure in real life. Her stories renewed my desire to work hard and improve my grades in mathematics as well as the other subjects. She was inspirational.
Strictness and Discipline
Madam Ann was very strict (Tjeldvoll 119). Whenever she assigned homework to the class, she made follow-ups on all students and made sure that we all attempted to answer the questions. Madam Ann appreciated any effort from the students towards solving the mathematical problems. The teacher always encouraged us to attempt answering the questions increasing my confidence. More so, she was strict to the whole class and punished all students who failed to do their homework.
The Best Teacher
In my life as a student, Miss Ann stands out as my best teacher. She was understanding, professional, and motivated the whole class into performing better. I can confidently attest to the fact that she improved my performance as well as that of my comrades in mathematics as well as in other subjects. As much as time passes, her motivating stories still linger in my mind whenever I encounter a challenging issue. Miss Ann is the best teacher ever.
