Outcomes of Learning
The conventional lifecycle of the system creation (SDLC) is a step-by-step approach for information systems. SDLC starts the preparation process, which defines the project schedule and scope. The second stage of the analysis of systems includes the analysis of all the criteria for system growth (Hoffer, 2012). The third phase is the system design phase, in which the whole system architecture is designed. The fourth step is the introduction of small programs called units, which will allow the machine beings to form themselves. The fifth phase is the testing and integration phase where the distinct units are tested and integrated to form the system. The sixth phase is the implementation phase where user documentation and training takes place (Keramati, & Mirian-Hosseinabadi, 2008). The final phase is the maintenance phase where additions and corrections are made to ensure that the system functions within the set parameters
There exists three component based development methodologies; agile methodology, extreme programming (XP) and rapid application development (RAD). Extreme programming involves the split of the project into distinct phases which renders the developer incapable of moving to the next phase before completing the first phase (Avison, & Fitzgerald, 2003). Agile methodology is similar to XP as it is aimed at satisfying the customer through continuous delivery of the vital system components. Finally RAD entails extensive user involvement in the rapid creation of system prototypes in accelerating the system development process.
Service oriented architecture (SoA) would allow an organization to have a multi-channel service delivery for its customers and as a result ensure high quality interactions (Perrey & Lycett, 2003). SoA would also provide a fully integrated electronic resource planning system for the end users which would ensure that they have access to whatever systems and information they would need regardless of their location.
