Professional Experiences
When working, one must keep in mind that income is not equally distributed; one may find that people in one location are paid more for the same job. The fact that New York has the highest income inequality in the country is an outstanding example. Employers often discriminate based on gender, social class, and ethnicity. In most workplaces, one must socialize his or her workspace because specific jobs become political, and it is usually up to the employee to keep his or her career. (ED, Castree, 2004) In this paper, I've discussed my personal experiences at two different places of employment. I've also spoken about how the environment influenced the background of my work. And the last issue that I have addressed is the concept of reading that can help me analyze my work experience.
Working Experiences
I have worked in different companies either voluntarily or for a wage, but the experience gained from all the jobs are the same. Most employers want to exploit the laborers to perform most tasks that in a lesser time. When I had the unpaid internship job, the boss always wanted me to handle almost everything at a go. He gave me too much work that I did not have the time to relax. Most of the workdays I would skip the lunch break so that I can meet the daily target. If by any chance I would not complete the job I was assigned to I would become subject to bullying and receive job threats. When I went as an intern, I realized that most employees were interned and did not receive any pay. The owner of the company only wanted to exploit others by making huge profits while He could not appreciate the hard work paid me. My parents used to send me cash until I decided to quit due to a massive workload with no pay.
After some months I acquired myself a paying job which was no different since Workers who are entitled to wages become commodities for definite periods since their capacity to work can just be said to be “purchased” this makes workers have the worst experiences in their working lives. In the division of labor, labor power has significant implications. An example being that the hours worked and wages earn directly impact the reproduction of the workers and their dependents. It is apparent that without work, laborers cannot sustain essential physical reproduction (food) or social reproduction. I did not like the way most I was treated by both my employers since they took advantage of me to expand their businesses.
The place where I worked shaped the experience of my work both negatively and positively. Any workers experience the labor market and are affected by, and respond to, economic restructuring and the labor rules that change the way the employers handle the employees and the mode the employees work. When performing any task, it is close to impossible for one not to gain experience since most of the functions are done using the same criteria. Also when handling any work, the challenges that one may encounter are an excellent source of knowledge especially when one is trying to solve them. The above reason makes one understand most ways that he/she can handle most problems hence more experience for similar jobs. The adverse experience is the torture from the employers and extortion. One should not use another one because the person is paying him or her. (Herod, 2001)
The concept in the reading that can help me analyze my experience of work is one the Marxist economic geography that saw workers as reactive agents or a commodity; they are made subject to the dynamics of capital accumulation. This one applies to my second job where I was getting paid. The mode our employer handled us is a precise definition of the Marxist economic geography. The second concept in the reading is the labor agency. It is an act that intentionally and proactively for its benefit and is capable of shaping the economic geography of capitalism based on its self-production on a daily and generational basis. It is the same agency that mobilizes labor. This concept has helped me analyze my experience of work and have taught me to make decisions according to the laws of the labor agency. (Hege, Knutsen, Sylvi, Endresen, Ann, Bergene and David Jordhus-Lier, 2015)
Conclusion
In conclusion, the labor geography which is an active agency of the labor helps in the role of labor-management since the agency issues the structural constraints in the labor sector. It also offers the regulations, norms, and values of the industry. There is a relational approach to the agency as embedded in structures of the state and capital enhanced emphasis on the structures and constraints that labor faces. The power relations in the formation and implementation of all regulations at all levels from the workplace to the international level to help make appropriate decisions and not know up to what point can a leader use force. All the above should be highly considered and should be followed accordingly so as not to mistreat others in the labor industry.
