Should Abortion Be Tolerated?
Any constitution exists to protect its citizens, their interests, and their independence. Humans, in theory, enjoy universal rights merely because they are human beings. People are granted a fair amount of freedom to make choices for their lives. However, there are several questions to consider, such as surgery, biometric authentication, and abortion. Abortion is an old, controversial and most sensitive issue. Proponents of abortion argue for its acceptance while its opponents argue that abortion would comprise the very basis of society’s foundation in morals, belief, and reason.
To begin with, it is a constitutional right that every human being should live. No person has the right to take away the life of another human beings. Many people argue that at the early stage of pregnancy, the child has not developed and that it is a mass of blood being aborted. However, research has proved that the basic organs of the fetus form by week six. The fetus can feel, hear and its heart is beating. Ending pregnancy at this stage means that life has been terminated and as such the right to life of the aborted fetus has been bleached (Ye, Peggy and Nilda Moreno-Ruiz).
Abortion corrupts a society’s moral values. In most societies, life is celebrated, and people attach significance to a newborn. The child is seen as a gift and a new responsibility, a promotion from being a young person to becoming a parent and a promotion to a higher social status. When a woman aborts, the society and herself are denied the chance to practice the social procedure that keeps people’s culture alive. The moral belief of the society and the mother are hurt as well. Life is sacred and taking it away is wrong at all levels. Tolerating abortion would make the society immoral and undermine the value of life.
The procedure itself is harmful to the child as much as it is to the mother. Both surgical and chemical procedures put the woman’s health at risk. Abortion increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy, breast cancer, and other diseases. Proponents argue that abortion allows the woman to have the child when they are ready. However, the medical threat to a woman’s health risks to eliminate the chance of her getting the baby altogether. Also, the process of abortion, the risks involved and the uncertainty levels disrupt a woman’s psychological health. According to (Block, Walter) research has shown that women who have aborted in the past later try or commit suicide up to 28%. Every woman goes through emotional turmoil. Infect many resolves to alcohol and drug abuse, sexual dysfunction, irresponsible sexual behaviors and post-traumatic disorder.
Conclusion
Abortion is harmful to the fetus, to the mother, the society and the law at large. It is self-explanatory that decisions should be made for what is helpful to a larger community. However, with abortion, tolerating it compromises the society, its values, and laws. Worse it denies a child right to life and distorts the psychological and medical well-being of the mother. Furthermore, it also puts the very life of the mother in danger either during the procedure or later through suicide or irresponsible living style. As such it is at no level should abortion be tolerated.
