sigmund freud
Watson proposed many dichotomies for describing a person's psyche. Taking Freud's position, one can respond to this circumstance in a variety of ways. Understanding the dichotomies results in many manifestations of the optimal knowledge in the field of psychological prescription. The material does not mean that Watson's reasoning was identical to Freud's, but the latter created a famous approach to explaining psychological and human behavior theories. The material filled out proving Freud's position on Watson's psychological prescription had several distinguishing features. In the first place, Freud seems to be in agreement with Watson’s suggestions that the process of studying the mind should mainly happen when a person is actively conscious. In this regard, he was of the opinion that mental study processes happen when a person is actively reasoning (Stern, 1998). Thus, conscious mentalism occurs to determine the behavior of a person.
On another note, Freud had a lower belief in the position of the centennial objectivism. In this regard, he believes that psychology does not only focus on behavior but other factors like mental structures and processes. However, his prescription for psychologists on determinism is for people to consider the cause and effect relationship (Stern, 1998). The majority of the occurring events and behaviors are well explained by the major factors causing them to happen. He noticed that partial causes of the event could not account for the variability of the present action.
Concerning the aspect of intuitivism, he completely ignores the fact that research should commence with observation. Instead, he said that a person should start conducting a research after understanding the claim of the matter involved. On this position, he supports deductivism, which requires one to conduct a more experimental research to find answers to the psychological problem (Stern, 1998). Therefore, Feuds prescribes the use of deductivism for people planning to have a research.
Freud further proves that he has less belief in Nomotheticism because his prescription was that psychology is a general concept that the objective of narrowing down to rules that explain the occurrence of various events. Therefore, he had more faith in idiographic when he held his view. He explains that human behavior should be guided by intelligent mental, rational, and behavioral process. He wants people to be reasonable when performing their activities to prevent them from experiencing the problems found in their everyday life.
Freud realized that the small units that built one's behavior explain their reasoning. To this extent, he prescribed the belief of molecularism. His support for the view was because the analysis of large and complex units was cumbersome. Moreover, his support for purism was based on the view of seeking knowledge for its own sake. People could use it to understand the new phenomenon, as well solve human problems. Finally, he gives a psychological prescription that requires people to prescribe factors that cause change and as well as those that change with regards to dynamism.
In summary, the psychological prescription of the Freud had some relationship with that of Watson. His position on the recommendations shows that the dichotomies he supported some were relevant while others needed more explanations to stand on their own. The views and information that illustrate his position are marked against the dichotomies given by Watson. Thus, the prescription gives Freud's view of the psychology of a person.
