Smart Life Goals

I've always thought of myself as a hardworking individual who would be willing to give up anything to achieve their goals. I've always been fascinated by the fields of health and management. Pursuing a degree that would only allow me to work in one of the fields would not have provided me with the fulfillment that I had always desired. After extensive research and numerous consultations, I discovered a goal that would suit me well and simultaneously fulfill both of my dreams. My counselor suggested that I study Clinical Health and Management. The degree would equip me with management skills necessary to run and operate a health care successfully. Also, it would give me a top priority compared to the individual has studied either degree. I would take three years to complete the degree, thereafter equip myself with the necessary skills for my dream job. I must commit myself to studying this course as it will not only help me career wise but give me a great sense of fulfillment.

To ensure each goal is attained, one must put in place a way of measuring them. Personally, I have set small goals that I ought to attain by the end of each year. This small goal will enable me to achieve my overall goal in a faster and easier method. Also, I plan to use the SMART goal method to help me attain each goal. The SMART goal method is a technique that ensures the goals are realistic and achievable. The word SMART is used as an acronym for five words. Goode (2012), outlines these words as specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time sensitive. (p.3); ensuring that each goal has these five characteristics ensures that an individual actualizes the goal easily. Without these characteristics, it would be impossible to attain an overall set goal. My progress is measured by how far I will achieve each goal.

To be an extraordinary healthcare manager, I need to have proper management skills as well as an ample knowledge in healthcare. A good manager must know how to handle the records of the facility and have a proper schedule. Wilkinson & Johnstone (2016) say that a proper manager must beware of the services ought to be provided by the facility and must ensure that they are available all the time. (p.125); Also, they must ensure a good supply of health practitioners to the facility so that the patients do not complain of poor services. As a manager, I need to have all these skills so that I ensure that whoever seeks services in the facility leaves a satisfied client. Most healthcare facilities do not consider the satisfaction rate of their clients. To them, working in such a facility is a burden, and they only do it to support themselves. I, on the other hand, will do it not only to provide a living for myself but gain an overall satisfaction. All in all, I need a supportive background in order to make my dream a reality. The people to whom I will be assigned to serve must be ready and willing to work hand in hand with me. It is impossible to have a healthy work environment if the locals are not ready for your service provision. I believe my current environment will provide a great opportunity for me to make my goal a reality since the government has a plan to establish up to five health facilities in the area. These facilities would provide a source of employment to the members of the local area. The facilities will take up to four years of completion, a time which I would pursue my degree and get relevant skills through attachment and various contracts. As an individual, I am very industrious and believe such a task would suit my personality perfectly. I can easily handle pressure as it comes thus avoid instances of meltdown. Also, I believe my education will prepare me well enough to handle every situation as they come.

Most people set unrealistic and unachievable goals. Personally, I would like to think that my goal is very achievable. Back in high school, I participated in several extra-curriculum activities, some which I got a chance to meet highly esteemed people in the healthcare industry. I knew that I need to establish good relations with these people so that I when I apply for a job in the industry, I would be given priority. As Tokuhama-Espinosa (2014), suggests, I have believe that I have taken advantage of social learning as well. (p.152); So far, most of the people in management are familiar with my works of charity and the several awards I got through different clubs and associations in high school. Maintaining this reputation will help me land my dream job easily as I will be skilled to handle any healthcare and management job.

The construction of the new facilities will take up to six years. During this time, I would have completed my degree and a few internship jobs to boost by curriculum vitae. I am quite aware that there will be competition as I will not be the only person applying for the job. As such, I need to do as much as possible to acquire the necessary skills, which even up on completion of the first facility, I will be considered for a position in the facility. My goal is realistic, given that I made connections with most officials in the health center and I have a good record that favors a career in my preferred field. I am optimistic that I will achieve my goal and become a successful healthcare manager who will change the lives of many individuals.
