Loafing socially The process of coordinating team members to successfully accomplish the desired objectives and goals is the greatest challenge for group leaders. Particularly when the size of the community is high, the diversity of humans makes it much more difficult. Some people in psychology will work hard alone, but this tendency is referred to as social loafing when they make a small contribution in a group (Simms & Nichols, 2014). This paper focuses, therefore, on the techniques that can be used in community projects to counter social loafing. As an educational technique, it also illustrates applications of the lecture process. The group members should work together as a team in order to prevent social loafing. The group leader should make every individual accountable through the allocation of distinct roles and responsibilities. In this regard, the group member will give their full input toward the completion of the task in the group. Also, in the bid to avoid social loafing, the group should maintain a small size. However, when the group size increases, the probability of social loafing also increases; therefore, if social loafing is to be avoided, then the groups should be subdivided into sub groups (Seltzer, 2016). Moreover, the team leader must set ground rules that govern the conduct of individuals before starting the project. In this way, the team leader will have minimal push backs from members. Lastly, the social loafing of individuals can be changed if the group members can decide to spend adequate time together.
Lecture as an Instructional Strategy
Lecture method often uses description and narratives to clarify an idea. It is considered the best method especially when dealing with a large group of people. In a classroom situation, it is used mostly in the introduction of topics and when the teacher needs to clarify concepts in class. In an organization, it can be used to clarify the objectives of the company or when giving instructions for a delicate task. When considering virtual classes, lecture method is always used mainly on the online tutorial classes. Therefore, lecture method is the most applicable instructional strategy.
