Team Building and Communication
Norms are guidelines established and upheld by group members prior to the start of assigned task. The members of the team follow the established conventions as they work on their assignment. It facilitates communication among members and aids in time management. Consequently, the members' acts are not repeated. Team norms assist individuals in understanding their responsibilities and roles within the group (Dyer & Dyer, 2013). Identifying group rules is important since it gives important details about what the team members are expected to do. Clear communication is critical in efficient group development, and this is because it helps a group to identify its vital functions, role, and values. Without clear communication, the team is doomed to misunderstanding among members, and this could lead to failure (Aga, Noorderhaven & Vallejo, 2016). Also, it is through effective communication that the group members can share ideas and essential information that is relevant to the ahead project.
It is only through clear communication that the voices of team members are heard. Members have a chance to discuss the set norms as well as practice them accordingly. The members are also able to assess which types of the norms are working and even those that need to be changed. (Dyer & Dyer, 2013). When team members are given a chance to discuss their views regarding the set rules and norms, they get inspired and motivated to achieve their goals much better.
I was a member of a social life group where we were supposed to do a research. Members of the group were not allowed to air their views on the matter. Duties were delegated to each member and instructions were also set. The project ended up failing since some of the members could not finish their set of work given to them. Some were not available on the set days of the meetings since they were busy elsewhere. Such issues could have been solved easily if there could have been a clear communication among members.
In conclusion, it is only through clear communication that the voices of team members are heard. Members have a chance to discuss the set norms as well as practice them accordingly. The members are also able to assess which types of the norms are working and even those that need to be changed. When team members are given a chance to discuss their views regarding the set rules and norms, they get inspired and motivated to achieve their goals much better.
