The Chemistry of Life
Chemistry of Life
Out of the ninety-two factors that exist on Earth, only twenty-five are concerned in the chemistry of life. Out of the twenty-five elements, simply four contains over ninety-eight percentage of all life matter: oxygen (0), carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and hydrogen (H). All the essential natural compounds are made up of these four elements. These four factors can be broken down further to one: carbon is a fundamental molecule for biology, for life. Carbon is the primary element of life. Its vital role situated on its potential to create four chemical bonds at the same time with different elements. Carbon usually joins different carbon atoms, forming a lengthy chain which is called hydrocarbons. These molecules draw their names from the central carbons bonded to hydrogen. Despite the fact that carbon can join with the four atoms, it’s also capable of making two and three different connections using a single partner, enabling it to bond with other substances. These formed bonds are so high compared to the single bonds, they are known as double and triple bonds.
Monomers and Polymers
Monomers and polymers also constitute the chemistry of life. Many life molecules contain basic units which are joined together to create long chains. Variations occur in these primary groups; they are called monomers. When two monomers are connected, they form a dimer; a string of monomers known as a polymer. Polymers form through different chemical reaction processes. In considering the chemical of life, one specific reaction is vital in creating the polymers. This reaction is of carbon, which is attached to a hydrogen atom, and carbon that contains an OH attached. When the two bond together they form a water molecule from the combination of oxygen and two hydrogen atoms. The water formed is essential for life.
