The Financial Burden of Nursing Homes
More than often, people visit nursing homes because they require long-term care services as they age and just before they die. The phrase ‘long term care’ implies that one is fully dependent on another person for self-care. The costs for such services are mind-boggling and crushing thus creates high financial burdens. Most people consider liquidating their property to manage paying for this compulsory care. In some instances, patients may qualify for Medicare but this may cover for part of the cost. The patient may be forced to cater for the financial bit that is remaining and this forces them to liquidate their property.
Aside from the financial burden, liquidation of property is done primarily for the protection of property and to qualify for Medicaid. According to the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, a person going to a nursing home only qualifies for Medicaid when their equity is less than $ 550000 in most states. Liquidating property reduces equity and helps individuals qualify for Medicaid. A person going to a nursing home may not have anyone to take care of their property and this prompts them to liquidate them for purposes of protection and also easy management.
HIV spread rapidly all over the world but numerous countries have managed this scourge effectively. The methods adopted in curbing this problem have been improved over the years. The basics of prevention still target aspects such as abstinence, alternatives to breastfeeding and the use of preventative measures such as condoms (CDC, 2017). I believe that the problem with early methods of prevention is that there was nothing like a post exposure therapy and most people got infected immediately after contact with an affected individual. As a result, these methods were among the many reasons for the spread of the scourge. Public awareness was also achieved through mass education. In as much as this is highly effective, this method has always failed in providing real life practical examples.
