The Historical Factor of Divorce 10 Years Vs 30 Years Ago
It seems that marriage is not as meaningful or as good as it used to be 30 years ago, according to recent research done in the USA (Marcassa 2013). Among many other reasons, there are many reasons attached to this, some of them being patience, pushing marriage due to pressure from married mates, lack of contact. Any of the consequences of divorces are discussed in the following essay. The divorce process has a range of temporary effects on all the parties involved (parents and children), and the degree to which these parties are affected depends on the individual's disposition, especially in children, such as temperament, understanding, stage and age. Children react to the reality of divorce mostly according to age and its, therefore, important for the parents to understand how to handle the issue to limit the psychological damage it can inflict on children and ensure positive development. They also need to know that all the activities and events that surround them affects the children and therefore the crucial thing is to dedicate themselves to their children to inflict a sense of love and belonging to them Impact of divorce on the children.
Impact of divorce on children
The experience of divorce has different effects at different ages of a child. During the early stages (toddler stage), children require a sense of security, and if it’s suddenly deprived subject to divorce, it affects the healthy way of a child’s growth. The exclusion of any of the security providers (parents) at this stage leads to a sense of abandonment which can, in turn, affect the acceptance sense of the child throughout his or her life. At the puberty period and beyond, the child begins to experience the social pressures and awareness and in the case of divorce, they tend to shift blame on either both or a single parent, and this is the most dangerous stage because they are in the early adulthood stages. The parent should, therefore, be there to help them express themselves and explore their adulthood (Hetherington, E. & Arasteh, J. (2014).
Impact of divorce in regard to parent’s age
Apart from the children, divorce also affects the parents. Most young parents experience frustration since it becomes like the first event of their parenthood and this leads to the development of mistrust throughout their lifetime and therefore unable to commit themselves to anyone. Some, however, take it positively and learn to be independent and cater for their lives and children. In the case of old parents, divorces bring about loneliness and lack of security.
Effects of divorce on boys vs girls
Effects of divorce are felt differently in boys and girls. Male children mostly react with more anger and aggressiveness than females who mostly responds by suppressing their feelings through other things. Unlike girls, boys become more prone to depression to the extent of losing touch with the mother and assume blame for divorce (Hetherington, E. & Arasteh, J. (2014). A divorced mother also suffers from divorce in a different way from the father since most of the time the divorced mothers are left to take responsibility for the children and therefore assume the role of both the father and mother responsibility. They sometimes lose touch with their children since they spend most of the time at work. Divorced fathers, in turn, end up being careless and since it’s quite a small number that assume parenthood responsibilities they suffer from depression and engage in immoral activities.
Culture and divorce
Culture also plays a significant role in divorce as issues regarding the assumption of different responsibilities and division of property emerge. Some cultures believe that the mother should take custodian responsibility for all the children while others think that guardian responsibility should be divided. Also, quite some divorces are as a result of differences in culture among the spouses.
Divorce effects are more vivid and painful at the beginning mostly with the parents, but as time progresses, they get used and move on with their lives. However, to the children, results of divorce are revealed years later judging by the way they emerge (Marcassa, S. (2013).
Historical facts on divorce cases
Historically, the rate of divorce cases is high lately as compared to 30 years ago According to a 2011 report by the census bureau, divorce rates rose steadily during the 60s,70s, and 80s whereby in 9185 it rose by 50 percent (Jones, A. (2017).
Conclusion
It is advisable to always seek a counselor before a divorce whether it’s for a good cause or not irrespective of whether the other partner is willing or not.
