THE INFLUENCE OF CHAIRMAN MAO ON THE CONTEMPORARY CHINESE ART AND CULTURE
The basis of this writeup is to discuss the influence of Chairman Mao on the contemporary art in Chinese. This writeup focuses on giving details on whether art and culture can alter a government's policy. Revolutionary Romanticism described the Mao's Cultural Revolution times. During this revolution, all artists were forced to use a particular type of political art in their artworks and many artists who started Cultural Revolution died as well. With all these occurrences, the economy of the country got better. Basic social amenities were subsidized and sometimes offered for free. People were more equal and got more benefits from the government more especially those who truly supported his government.
Today’s China is a product of Mao’s policies in which he brought in cultural revolution basing on freedom of expression of all chines people especially the oppressed women’s right even though many people died in the struggle for revolution . He protected the interests of youth, women and children by providing free education to poor children, organized women to participate equally as men in the social progress with freedom equity in marriages. Further he brought in transition of the modern China from socialism to communism, characterized by centralization of Agriculture and Industrialization.
In conclusion Chairman Mao instilled a state of art which discouraged beauty and brought in a notion that it should serve a political purpose in which the state of the art should glorify china and communism. He managed to transform art which included songs, theater, posters and status for political gains and his interests. This Cultural Revolution policy brought in modernization, characterized by destruction of cultural artifacts and education. Significantly the modern Chinese culture has become more open recently with few restrictions though it doesn’t affect their artist work in which democracy in art has been brought by continued Cultural Revolution and modernization.
