According to the module on video games, about 155 million Americans play video games. Out of every five households in the US, four houses own devices that are used to play video games. Some of the devices owned by the citizens include smart phones, wireless device, PCs and dedicated game console. Additionally, the module states that the average age of those playing video games is 35 years. Also, 42% of Americans spend three hours per week or more playing video games. The first three most sold video games by 2014 include action, shooter games, and sports games (Guarini, 2013). Games have evolved from our initial generation which considered games as part of human activities.
Video games are part of the mass media that are communication mediums. They have entered the popular media, and many people engage in them. There are various advertisements for video games on TVs, radios, and billboards (Guarini, 2013). Video games may have either positive or adverse impact on individuals or family members. Playing video games, therefore, enhance the social skills of a person leading to an interactive society. However, overusing the game can disrupt social interactions making an individual spend all of his or her time on the game rather than interacting with friends and family members.
In conclusion, video games are significant in our lives today. They act as pain relievers and can reduce the aging process. Also, video games spur children’s mental growth making them smarter. Another interesting part of the video games is that it can help improve your sight, for instance, one's vision advances when playing the shooter game.
