Ladies and gentlemen, elections are a key component of government, as the affairs of the United States are decided by casting ballots. As you might be aware, the majority of students cast their first ballot at the age of 18. Such an exercise is the fulfillment of the most fundamental activity in a civil society such as the United States. You will come to understand that it is through the ballot box that voters will have the power to decide who their leaders will be, from the state level to the municipal level (Galais & Blais, 2016). Main Body As citizens of this great nation, its encumberment upon every to directly participate in choosing the leaders who will drive the agenda of the country for a full electoral cycle. Every government that comes into place after an electoral contest is responsible for overseeing the nation's resources like the taxes which directly come from the remittances of the citizens (Cancela & Geys, 2016). Therefore, it behooves every citizen to not only register as a voter but should also be actively involved in shaping the discourse of the electoral contest and finally decide the fate of the country by choosing the leaders of their choice at the ballot (Muralidharan & Sung, 2016).
Given the significance of the elections to the United States, some citizens choose to forfeit to exercise their democratic right of electing leaders at the polls. They boycott the elections with the full knowledge of how the issues canvassed during the electoral cycle influence every facet of the life (Southwell, 2016). There have been valid concerns that some of the voters have expressed pessimism that their votes do not count. Others have also said that they do not have enough information regarding the issues that people are voting about and it will be improper for them to vote on the point of ignorance (Harsanyi, 2014). Furthermore, some of the youths do not vote because they are not aware of the places to register as a voter or cast their votes (Gerber, Huber, Biggers, & Hendry, 2017).

Finally, ladies and gentlemen, despite the reasons why some eligible voters choose to stay away from the voting day, it’s imperative that everyone citizen take the initiatives such as conducting their local board of elections on what they need to know about the polls and participate in voting.
